This website will be updated monthly with construction progress, photos, and any activities that may impact the area.
Due to the nature of construction, some disruptions may not be known a full month in advance, but we will do our best to keep the community at-large informed as much as possible.
Construction activities will typically take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Upcoming Milestones
- Scaffolding continues, and the removal of the nearly 100-year old roof tiles has begun.
Campus Impacts
- With construction fencing now in place around the Wren, entry to the building is limited to three routes: the front door facing Colonial Williamsburg, the center sidewalk coming from the Sunken Garden through the courtyard, and the accessible ramp on the Jamestown-Road side of the building.
- Events are still being scheduled inside the Wren, but be aware that capacity restrictions are in place for the Chapel and the Great Hall during the workday.
- Construction vehicle traffic will be ongoing from James Blair Drive between Tucker Hall and the Wren site.
- Commencement activities, including Candlelight Ceremony, the procession across campus, and departmental graduation ceremonies, are still scheduled for the Wren.
4-Week Look Ahead
- Scaffolding construction has reached the roof of the Great Hall, and is continuing through the rest of the courtyard and on to the Chapel. Overhead protection will be constructed over any effected entry points.
- Protective material will be installed on all brick sidewalks remaining in place during construction.
- Removal of roof tiles has begun over the Great Hall. They may look like wooden shingles, but they’re actually terra cotta tiles.
- Temporary wooden stairs are being built to provide access for when the building's stone steps are removed for repairs.
- The large exterior doors on the building will be removed for restoration and replaced by temporary doors (east front, 3 doors on the piazza, Great Hall, and Chapel).
