Project Status

March 2026

This website will be updated monthly with construction progress, photos, and any activities that may impact the area.

Due to the nature of construction, some disruptions may not be known a full month in advance, but we will do our best to keep the community at-large informed as much as possible.

Construction activities will typically take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Milestones

  • All scaffolding is down from the building, revealing the various repairs to the façade.
  • All new roofing tiles have been installed.
  • Gutters, dormers, balconies, and cupola are repaired (still awaiting final painting).
  • Repaired stone steps are now in place for the Great Hall and Chapel.

Campus Impacts

  • With construction fencing now in place around the Wren, entry to the building is limited to three routes: the front door facing Colonial Williamsburg, the center sidewalk coming from the Sunken Garden through the courtyard, and the accessible ramp on the Jamestown-Road side of the building.
  • Events are still being scheduled inside the Wren, but certain spaces may become unavailable given needs for final interior repairs.
  • Construction vehicle traffic will be ongoing from James Blair Drive between Tucker Hall and the Wren site.
  • Commencement activities, including Candlelight Ceremony, the procession across campus, and departmental graduation ceremonies, are still scheduled for the Wren.

4-Week Look Ahead

  • The new Portland stone pieces for the East and West stairs are expected to be delivered to site in the month of February for installation in March.
  • Excavation and below grade demolition have begun around the building and will continue for the next several weeks.
  • The new waterproofing and foundation drainage system installation will soon begin.
  • Below grade work will be completed over the coming weeks, allowing for the final cleaning of the façade to begin.
  • The temporary covers in the Piazza archways will be removed, making the space open to the exterior once again. Preparations are being made for a large-scale interior painting effort in the public spaces.
  • A new exterior lighting system will be installed around the building.
